Lessons from Having Terminal Cancer

November 2022

One thing I have been learning this last year is not to fear. We can do anything with the Lord's help. I have had to pray for help to have faith and not to fear, and the Lord has helped me. When fear overtakes me, I can't feel the Spirit, then I'm really afraid. As long as I turn to the Lord for help and strength, He has been there to help me. I've even been able to sleep well right before both major surgeries. When I have done all that I can for my health, then I have been able to ask in faith for His help in my life. He is always there to help you.

Reminder not to take my meds for granted

Last night, I began to feel nauseous and have acid reflux, when suddenly, I realized that I had forgotten to take my both my nausea and reflux meds at lunch. Though I was able to squeeze in the missed dose, I didn't feel well last night and this morning my throat is sore and I am tired. It will take me awhile to recover from this error.

While I'm recovering, I've been thinking how this situation is like life. We get used to something, or someone, making our life easier or more comfortable for us and then take them for granted. I had forgotten how much I needed this medication and had become careless. Now I'm paying the price.

I've been asking myself if I am taking all the kind things my husband is doing for me for granted. It is so easy to expect someone to always be there and providing loving support. I think of times when I've forgotten to give thanks for all the Lord is doing for me. Often, I haven't even noticed the help He is giving me until He finally withdraws His help.

Today is a time to heal both my body and my spirit. It is time to appreciate all the good I have in my life. It is time to be grateful and remember-- without needing a reminder.

The Story behind the Gratitude Message

I've enjoyed hearing how President Nelson received revelation on how to do the Gratitude message video.

“Counting our blessings is far better than recounting our problems. No matter our situation, showing gratitude for our privileges is a unique, fast-acting, and long-lasting spiritual prescription.” —President Russell M. Nelson
