My life Changing Experience

Many years ago when my life revolved around caring for two toddlers, and our Relief Society* meetings were on Wednesday mornings, something occurred that changed my life. I was happily enjoying some time with other adults when a woman came to me and told me that our Relief Society President wanted to see me in the nursery room.

Excusing myself, I quickly entered the children's nursery where I was astounded at what was happening. There was our Relief Society President sitting at a table with about seven out-of-control preschoolers. Flustered, she looked up at me as if I was her rescuer, then she blurted out that the other helper had needed to leave. "Since you are so good with children, could you handle things yourself?" Without waiting for an answer, she quickly fled out of the room. I was stunned for a moment, then I quickly sat down with the children. For an hour we had a fun time together making crafts.

Later, I tried to make sense of what had happened that day. This president was a mature woman with gray hair, which at that time, I thought made her amazingly competent in doing everything. In fact, she had been impressive in all I had seen her do up to this point. She graciously greeted women, led meetings, planned activities, gave lessons, and cared for those in need. She was what I hoped to be "when I grew up".

Being Accepted

https://www.lds.org/media-library/video/unity-in-diversity?cid=HP_FR-14-9-2018_dPAD_fMLIBxLIDyL1-B_&lang=eng
I just watched this video and was impressed that it dealt with some difficult topics. As a person who dances (I don't march) to the beat of a different drummer, I know that it is important to keep firmly in my mind who I really am -- a daughter of God.  If everyone else in the world does not accept, or approve of, who I am and how I do things, it doesn't matter. I am still a daughter of God. I have been given amazing gifts by my Heavenly Father. I have unbounded potential and tremendous worth.

Some people struggle with accepting people who are different from themselves. Though it is challenging to not feel rejected, we must see the situation for what it really is. It is not our difference that is the problem, but their lack of acceptance.

A Woman's Lifeline

A friend sent me this and I identified with every age (except the last!). I was prettier when I was younger, but I enjoy life so much more now!

A Woman's Lifeline

Age 3: She looks at herself and sees a queen.

Age 8: She looks at herself and sees Cinderella.

Age 15: She looks at herself and sees an ugly duckling (Mom I can't go to school looking like this today!)

Age 20: She looks at herself and sees "too fat/too thin, too short/too tall, too straight/too curly" but decides she's going out anyway.

Perspective of Womanhood

I wrote this many years ago as a professional woman who chose to be home and nurture my family.

Lord’s Perspective

Queen
defender of home
has mission to help family return to Heavenly Father
united with husband
eternal perspective of the significance of her work
responsibility to raise children shared with husband
she has stewardship over home- delegate work
husband is responsible to provide for the family
told she is capable- continually learning
encouraged to magnify gifts and talents
builder of society, home and community
views her life as fulfilling
told she is a leader, and nurturer
Is busily engaged in life
Is free to set own goals, schedule
told her family need her nurturing, leadership, emotional support
therefore she stays in the home and fulfill her mission and achieve eternal goals

Light in a Dark World

Matthew 5:16, We should let our light shine to bring glory to God

by Cheryl Merrick

It is the middle of winter;
a time when the days are often gray
and plants are dormant or dead.
Perhaps this is when we need
light and hope the most.
The glittering holidays are over,
and it is now time to face stark reality.
Now is the time to allow the light He brought
to give us hope in our dark world.

"Something Divine" music video

Last night I watched this video on Mormon Channel and thought I'd share it with you. This is what Mormon Channel says about the video and I agree:

"Brooke White sings “Something Divine” to remind us that we are all children of God who has given us talents and responsibilities. “Every star is different, and so is every child. Some are bright and happy, and some are meek and mild.”

But this is more than just a reminder that people are different. Our different strengths, talents, and gifts are God-given. They are an invitation for us to rise up to our potential and use them to bless lives: ours and others.

Temple Garments of Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

This is a video showing the underwear Mormons wear. Personally, I've never been very interested in what underwear people wear, but it seems that anything "Mormons" do is of interest. Have you noticed that you never hear, "Mr. Jones, a Methodist, did this or that". On the other hand, people who are "Mormons" in name only and don't even know what the beliefs of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are, are referred to as, "Mr. Smith, a Mormon, did it."  I'm not sure why this is, but it is.  Newscasters know that any story that has anything to do with the "Mormon" church will draw viewers or readers. Maybe it is because few people know much about us. That is why I started this blog; to answer questions and share my beliefs.

Dating, or Why I'm Glad I don't want to be a Teenager Again!

I've written a lot about marriage. This video about dating was made in the late 1970's. I still enjoy it every time I see it. It reminds me why I don't want to be a teenager again!  It also shows how friends can help each other and how we all need to learn social skills. Enjoy! (Did you recognize Jimmy from the old Superman movie?)

"Glorious" music video from the movie Meet The Mormons

The song “Glorious” is sung by David Archuleta in the new movie Meet the Mormons  (David is not in the movie, but the song is featured in the movie.)
I really enjoyed this song and thought you might too.

What I Liked about General Woman's Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

I look forward to twice a year hearing our leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints give messages just for women. What I liked best about this General Woman's Conference is the firm declaration of mission.

It really helped me focus on who I really am - a Daughter of God, and what I can do to make the world a better place. It gives me strength to know
