Thanks Giving Shouldn't Be Over

Yes, the time of year when we remember all the things we are grateful for has passed, but why give up a good thing? Didn't you feel strengthened by all the positive energy you received as you thought about the things you have to be thankful for? Wasn't it wonderfully different from all the draining, depressing posts enumerating how "bad" our life is?

When I hear how "rough" our life is, I see pictures of those in the world who struggle to feed their family, and who have to live in shacks. What would they think of people who are "miserable" because they can't eat out where they want. We have so much to be thankful for. Let's keep the positive going so our shriveled souls can heal in the light of gratitude.

Seeing my Glass as half Full

In the home I was raised in, this glass of water would have been considered half empty. Each event in life was looked at through critical lenses where its imperfections were magnified.  Consequently, life was very disappointing, and, without faith, frightening.

From the time I was 19 and joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I have been trying to change my childhood training into a more positive outlook on life. It has taken a great deal of effort. I have had to consciously look for the good in each situation and in each person.

My resolve has been put to the test as I have had to deal with fifty years of major health problems and with serious family relationship difficulties. On days when the pain seemed unbearable, the frustration overwhelming, or the emotional suffering crushing, I can't say that I met life with cheerful optimism, but I have kept trying.

Gratitude can Heal our Society

With the holidays approaching, have you noticed that there is a more positive feel and energy around us. People definitely seem happier. I believe it is because people are starting to think of what they have to be thankful for and are appreciating what they already have.

Why does appreciation make such a difference in our lives? Why would this man of science and of God in this video "prescribe" gratitude as the cure to the ills in our society?
