What is Real?

I've had help in my life so many times. I know I wouldn't be here without God's help. Some people want proof, but that sure knowledge that I feel within me is more real than anything I touch, see, or smell. I know I've had help. Denying everything that isn't concrete is like living in a one dimensional black and white world. How do you touch hope, love, peace, freedom, beauty, and the spirit?  Like the wind, you can see effects of them, but you can't wrap up the thought and put it in a little box. There is so much more to life and it is just as real. It is what makes life worth living. It is what brings us joy. When I see the love in my husbands eyes and feel the joy of being with our family, that is what matters, that is what is "real".

Why Did I Join The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Church?

A friend asked if I had joined The Church because I married a member. This is my response to her.

No, I did not join The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints because I was marrying a member. After I joined the Church, I found a strong member of my faith to marry, because I wanted a partner who would share my beliefs and help me to grow.

When I was 16, I met a girl in a summer school class in California and we became friends -- still are! I was impressed with her values and her family. There was a love there that wasn't in my family. As I told you I was looking for truth. I've never had any interest in "religion" -- in joining some group and adopting their ideas. I really don't understand why people do that -- security? I am an exceptionally independent person who lives by principles and not much of a "groupy".

Did I Vote for the New Prophet?

No, I did not. What I did was participate in the Solemn Assembly where I had the privilege to raise my hand to "sustain" our new prophet, President Russell M. Nelson.  This picture shows Aaron and Hur holding up, or "sustaining",  Moses so the Israelites could continue to prevail in a battle. So am I going to hold up the Prophet's arms? In a way, yes.

You might be wondering not only what  sustaining means, but how it differs from voting. To explain, you need to understand that there is no campaigning for the office of President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  Change is peaceful and orderly. All know that the next Prophet will be the person who is the senior apostle in the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.  The Lord, who has power over life and death, chooses the person who will be in this senior position. In this way the Lord provides that the next prophet will be the person who not only has the most experience and years of service in the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, but the person whom He has prepared to serve as prophet at this time.

Grandma and Grandpa's Testimony

I wrote this several years ago for our grandchildren.

I believe that there is a God and that He truly is our Heavenly Father, the father of our spirits, and as our father, He wants us to grow and be happy. Our purpose for being here on earth is to learn to choose good over evil -- to learn and become more like our Heavenly Father. With His help we can progress and return and live with Him someday where we can enjoy eternal family relationships.

I know there is a God because I have experienced His help in my life. I feel that He loves us more than we are capable of understanding. I know he loves me for I have felt His presence supporting me in my most desperate moments.

I know there is a God because He answers my prayers. I have received so much help in my life as I have been married and raised our four children. The Lord has helped me to endure the many years I have had to spend ill and restricted to my home. He gave me the strength to endure the pain and frustrations. I believe He helped to us finally find out what was the problem and am grateful for the inspiration He has given me to help me know what to do to deal with a very rare and serious health problem. Without His help, I doubt that I'd still be here.

I have seen His guidance and help in my life. Jobs have worked out at the right time for our family. We found the right home for us. Opportunities have suddenly appeared, and we have been warned of dangers such as there being an icy spot on the road we had to travel. Everyday I see and experience God's love for me.

People Testify of God

  • One of the ways we can know that God is real is to read the accounts of others who have seen God.  All the prophets have testified of our Savior. Here are some of their experiences.
    God, Privilege of Seeing

     Adam
    Enoch
Enoch beheld the Son of Man ascend: Moses 7:59 .

    Abraham
Abraham, talked with the Lord, face to face: Abr. 3:11 .
Lord appeared unto me: Abr. 2:6 .
