I've been stalling writing this. I'm definitely not a "political activist", in fact I feel no loyalty to any political party, and I don't have any "wings" whether they are right or left. I'm just an "old" lady with some questions about what happened on January 6, 2021 such as:
- How could anyone, much less a mob of people, enter our National Capitol building?
- How could Washington DC, who regularly experiences protest marches, not be ready to deal with a well publicized event such as this "Stop the Steal" rally?
- How could those who made such an impressive display of defensive power when the BLM had their peaceful protest, now not be prepared?
- How could they allow rioters to take over our National Capitol and not get them out of the building for three hours after the mob broke in?
- Is it really possible that all those seasoned leaders in charge of security really believed that "all would be peaceful" and that large numbers of armed troops, and riot protection were unnecessary?
- (Everyone knows that potentially any protest group can become dangerous. Unfortunately, that is just a fact of life. That's why they even have armed guards at NFL games.)
- Could all the people responsible for Capitol security really be naive enough to believe that there would be little need for police protection when several terrorist groups had Tweeted that they would be at the rally?
- Today, it looks like there is a lot of people trying to point the finger of blame at others. Why did all they all "fail" in their job to protect the security of the Capitol building?
- Why did it take over four hours (one hour of being on the Capitol porches, and three hours after the break into the building) before President Trump told his followers to "go home"?
- Why did the Secretary of Defence Christopher Miller say that he talked with the Vice President Mike Pence, Speaker Pelosi, Leader McConnell, Senator Schumer, and Representative Hoyer about what was happening at the Capitol, but didn't mention Trump?
- (I admit that Trump was in a difficult situation. He asked his followers to come to Washington DC and he had just spent an hour encouraging his supporters to go to the Capitol and "stop the count". I'm sure that Trump was pleased at his followers' success in preventing Congress from certifying his opponent as the next President of the United States. Of course, he was reluctant to use his Presidential authority to call out troops to disband his own followers.)
- Is our National Security still intact? Some Congressional laptops and papers are known to be missing. Electronic devices were supposed to be locked and shut down and classified national security information should have been in a special secured area in the capitol. This area wasn't breached, but they can't be sure of what documents in the building might have been copied.
- Did foreign adversaries take advantage of the mob breaking into the Capitol building to gather classified information? Would mob leaders sell security information?
- Terrorists had three hours to roam the Capitol building and do whatever they wanted. What did they do?
- How secure is our nation when this can happen?
